Time flies!
We’re just a few days away from the start of the National Institute on Aging’s (NIA) 2023 National Research Summit on Care, Services, and Supports for Persons Living with Dementia and their Care Partners / Caregivers.
The virtual event runs March 20-22, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern time each day, and is the first care-focused summit since the summer of 2020.
“The [event] will build on [the] progress of the previous Summits to review research progress, highlight innovative and promising research, and identify unmet research needs with input from the research community, persons living with dementia, and their care partners.”
The National Research Summit on Dementia Care and Caregiving is one of many coordinated planning efforts established in the National Plan to Address Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (NPAAD/RD)
Developed by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE), the NPAAD/RD, establishes six goals to “both prevent future cases of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and to better meet the needs of the millions of American families currently facing the disease.”
Those six goals include:
Preventing and effectively treating Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias by 2025
Enhancing care quality and efficiency
Expanding support for people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia and their families
Enhancing public awareness and engagement
Improving data to track progress
Accelerate action to promote healthy aging and reduce risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
The 2023 Research Summit on Dementia Care presents an opportunity for family caregivers to contribute to this crucial conversation. It includes a series of educational sessions, expert panels with Q&A, and research presentations.
Anyone affected by Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias is invited to attend the NIA Care and Caregiving Research summit, including:
People living with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias
Family caregivers
Care partners
Researchers
Health care providers
Advocacy organizations
If you know someone with Alzheimer’s disease or another type of dementia, you’re encouraged to register for the event.
Sharing your insights, struggles, and personal experiences plays a vital role in determining where memory care gaps exist and how they can be addressed in the future.

On March 20-22, 2023, the NIA is hosting its third-ever National Research Summit on Dementia Care. The event is free to the public and plays an essential role in helping guide the future of treatment for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
